Design, Monitor & Evaluate Development Projects That Get Results & Attract Donor Support

COURSE OUTCOMES

This practical self-study course will teach you how to design and monitor projects that deliver measurable results for target groups and communities. You will learn a process for project identification, design and M&E planning that will lead to improved outcomes for your project beneficiaries.

Through downloadable course videos, practical worksheets and extra materials you will learn how to:

  • Apply the Results-Based Management (RBM) philosophy and principles to drive highly impactful development results
  • Use the Logical Framework Approach (LFA) to easily design, monitor and evaluate humanitarian and community development projects
  • Use RBM and LFA to consistently deliver a high level of positive, measurable change that will keep your stakeholders and donors satisfied

The course addresses the challenges faced by development professionals in project design and M&E in a way that allows for maximum practical work. While you will get all the theory you need, you will learn the steps and tools in a way that you can apply time after time after the course is over.

HOW IT WORKS

SELF-STUDY

As soon as you sign up you get immediate, lifetime access to all the course materials - downloadable course videos, worksheets and extra materials. As a self-paced course, you work through a series of video presentations on various aspects of Results-Based Management, Monitoring & Evaluation at your own pace.

The first part of the course examines the principles of RBM. We then move into deigning results-based projects using the Logical Framework Approach. Finally we look at how to build an M&E plan to keep the project on track towards positive, measurable change for target groups and end users.

This is a practical course. At various points you will invited to stop the video and complete different tasks. You will find the worksheets for these inside the course. Please do stop and do the tasks when asked.

All of the videos can be downloaded for off-line study / reference, as can everything else - PDF slides, worksheets and reference materials.

At the end of the course there is a test to measure how successfully you have learned the skills before you are issued with your certificate.

"RBM is not a tool - it is a mindset, a way of working that looks beyond processes and activities, to focus on the actual social and economic benefits of projects for beneficiaries."

"Wonderful materials, perfect explanation videos and no chance of missing anything. If we follow this course, at the end we have new project with a perfect M&E system. The course is also cost-effective and can be done without affecting routine work."

Vamathevan Valavan, M&E Consultant, Sri Lanka

"As a result of the training, RBM is now our in-house tool for project evaluation and appraisal, and we mainstream RBM in all our 37 project offices across Nigeria. Neil opened my eyes to critical issues of linking activities to results and impacts, and his ability to deconstruct and demystify M&E made the training a life-changing experience."

Dr Steve Ogidan, National Coordinating Consultant. Nigeria Incentive-Based Risk-Sharing System for Agricultural Lending

“Neil is a wonderful trainer who lets the participants have in-depth knowledge of the course. And the way the course has been designed and is conducted really helps to grasp a good knowledge on the subject matter.”

Kanchan Ojha, Monitoring and Evaluation Associate, World Wide Fund For Nature, Nepal

"The training videos, slides and the printable PDF materials are more than enough now for me to call myself an RBM professional."

Philip Taiwo, Programme Manager, Imani House, USA / Liberia

"The training helped me to improve my knowledge on how to develop social projects more efficiently. The course provides good learning on how to develop projects with better performance and greater accountability by applying a clear logical framework to plan, manage and measure an intervention with a focus on the results you want to achieve."

Elçin Demirel, Regional Coordinator, TAMEB (German-Turkish Partnership for Vocational Skills Development)

"The course responds to the actual challenges in terms of concepts and practices of M&E. The material presents clearly the different phases and components of the RBM approach. It was easy to learn the elements of a project, the M&E toolkit and how to plan M&E. It is easy to self-learn based on the useful material provided. The videos and texts provided can be used to support me during my professional activities."

N'cho Akahoua Simon, Agricultural Economist, International Institute of Tropical Agriculture, Nigeria

"The training is a 'must' for project planning and implementation and will have a positive impact."

Kübra Emir, Program Officer, Relief International, Turkey

"The course exceeded my expectations. At the beginning of the course I was hoping to learn more about LFA and identifying appropriate indicators for evaluation. To understand the LFA approach I have had to learn so much more - writing objectives, developing a problem tree, problem and stakeholder analysis and finally the LFA matrix. Some of those concepts I wrongly assumed that I understood so it was quite an eye opener to learn the correct meanings and applications."

Dr Bolaji Obadeyi. Principal Partner. Healthlogics, Nigeria

"I enjoyed very much every part of it - I really refreshed a lot of things about the LFA and RBM. Your work is well-constructed, well-thought and designed to be understood and implemented by the participants. The sources are excellent selections of the best. The videos were short and focused to the fundamental points."

Qemal Balliu, International Development Project Manager, Washington D.C.

"The course was very interesting and practical. I learnt a lot about stakeholder analysis, the steps to LFA, the role of the assumptions, the link between the Problem Tree and the Objectives Tree, and also about M&E planing and indicators."

Romeela Mohee, Education Specialist, Commonwealth of Learning, Canada
