READ ME!

WELCOME - IMPORTANT INFORMATION

This document contains important information about how to work with this course, what to expect and what is expected from you.

OBJECTIVES

·       To understand the philosophy and principles of RBM

·       To develop a thorough working knowledge of the Logical Framework Approach

·       To be able to apply RBM and LFA to your own projects

PROCESS

This course combines short, clear videos with practical tasks, an extended assignment, discussion questions and background reading material.

For each section:

1. Read the READ ME section

This outlines what is coming up and is also where you can download the slides and any templates for the exercises / tasks.

Where appropriate there will also be background reading materials. While these are not essential, they will allow you to understand the topics in more depth. Reading materials have been selected because they are usually brief, clear and represent current thinking on LFA, RBM and M&E. Note that different organisations may have slightly different perspectives. All background materials are in the public domain and shared on an as-is basis.

2. Watch the Video Lessons

The videos are intentionally brief and - hopefully - clear. As this is a practical course we don't aim to overwhelm you with theory (that's what the reading materials are for) - we want you to be able to apply the knowledge and develop your skills quickly. Videos are also short so that you can fit them in around your schedule.

3. Do the Tasks

During the videos you may be asked to pause and do a task. Tasks vary from very short ones ('pause and think') to longer tasks ('build a Problem Tree'). ALWAYS stop and do the tasks before continuing.

4. Do the Extended Tasks

There are two main pieces of work you will create as follows:

·       Your own project Logical Framework

·       Your M&E Plan

Extended tasks begin from Section 4 and are as follows:

·       Context Analysis

·       Problem Analysis

·       Stakeholder Analysis

·       Stakeholder Communication Plan

·       Objectives Analysis

·       Strategy Analysis

·       Building the Logical Framework

·       Creating an M&E Toolkit

·       Building the M&E Plan

5. Contribute to the Discussions

This is a required part of the course if you want to receive a certificate. Discussions come at various points in the course and allow you to share your own perspectives and experiences and share feedback with others. Please contribute to all discussions and comment on at least one other participant's contribution. Obviously, we hope you will do more! There is a lot to be learned through sharing experiences and perspectives.

PERSONAL WORK REVIEW

Once you have completed your M&E Plan, get in touch to arrange your review.

Best of Luck!
